You already can do this, use the sort options in the collection view and sort by year on first level. Then you can click on the bar right below the search field and sort either ascending or descending.

On my version of amarok sorting by year on first level doesn't exist

also I was more in the lines of thinking like this:

Artist / Year - Album
-------
- artist A
   + 2001 - album name
   + 2002 - album name
- artist B
   + 1992 - album name
   + 1993 - album name

It's actually a conscious decision to sort albums in reverse chronological order. Adding a micro option to toggle this is unlikely to ever make it into the product simply because a) we think it's unnecessary and b) there is nowhere to put it.

We rationalise that it would be very rare to find so many albums which makes it too difficult to start reading from the bottom of the list when you want to find the earliest album.

If you would like to show the albums in chronological order, then you'll have to reverse the sort order (with the side effect of showing everything Z-A also).

I would also like to have this option, so it can be sorted like this:

 - 2009
     - second Level (e.g. Artist)
        - third Level (e.g. album)
     + second Level
     + second Level
 - 2008
     - Second Level
+2007
+2006
+2005
....
As far as i know, there's such n option in amarok 1.6. It would really be nice to have n option like this again.

I very much doubt that, there never was an Amarok 1.6 ;)

You can sort by year in the playlist already.
