Description Aaron Latham-Anderson 2009-05-08 23:12:13 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

This is a problem when using dolphin from kde or gnome on (k)ubuntu jaunty.

In dolphin I right click on a folder in and select properties, click on the share tab then click on the configure file sharing button, it prompts me for a administration password and that's it - there is no way to configure file sharing from dolphin.

The only way I can configure sharing is by using nautilus (the default gnome file manager)instead.

Just did some googling and came up with this:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/354559

I here I found a post that said this:

As a workaround, if you experience "findServiceByDesktopPath: fileshare.desktop not found" error when clicking on "Configure file sharing" (kdesudo kcmshell4 fileshare), try removing contents of /var/tmp/kdecache-root. It'll be updated automatically and the file sharing dialog should start without errors.

This worked for me - at least in the short term - will restart and see what the result is.

Sorry, the screenshot above refer to this comment.
I'm using Arch Linux with KDE 4.6.3 and this bug today is still there, it appear at the same conditions described by Aaron Latham-Anderson. In my case, resolution is:
I installed kdenetwork-filesharing package, and after Dolphin ask me for a root password, I can share folders as I want.

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719
Comment 6 Frank Reininghaus 2012-11-29 21:39:20 UTC
This isn't really a Dolphin issue (the 'Properties' dialog is provided by kio/kfile in kdelibs).

This now works as expected. You can use the share tab to automatically download Samba packages, turn on samba sharing, and set up a share.
