This exists on multiple distributions including Kubuntu 8.10 & 9.04 as well as Fedora 11.

The Display Configurator in System Settings is utterly useless for setting up a dual display because both monitors end up on top of each other and there is no way to change the positioning. Xrandr handles the configuration without issue, it's just that the functionality is not exposed by the GUI. Tho odd thing is that for disconnected displays I can see the position controls but of course they are disabled because the display is disconnected. Once a display is connected and detected the controls disappear. It would also be nice if there was a button somewhere that would cause the GUI to rescan the displays to see if one was connected or disconnected. Currently you have to completely exit the system settings utility to get the GUI to detect a change in what displays are connected. I am able to configure dual displays properly using xrandr from the command line but having this GUI work properly would be nicer.


The PC is a Dell Latitude E6400 with an Intel 4500 GPU.
