When you open a text document with Konqueror 4.2.2 

"Open 'http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids'?
Type: plain text document"

this don't search on open text, only on the right bar, but on the opened text don't search nothing, i'm running Debian Unstable.

I open the web site of www.Linux-usb.org and later i go to "ID List" there i click and this give an option, "open like plain text" or "save as".

As a workaround you can click inside the frame showing the usb.ids file and using Ctrl+F there. The search bar will appear inside that frame and you would be able to search on that file

Should be fixed in KDE 4.8.0. This is probably caused by the same problem discussed at https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/103401/. Please update this bug report once KDE 4.8.0 is released and you had the chance to try it out.
