That is already available, but not in KWin. It's in systemsettings -> appearance -> colors. There you can define colors and color effects for inactive windows. That is where I checked, I thought that belonged to Kwin. In that configuration window one can set the colours for windows, but cannot set different colours for inactive and for active windows. In other words, both inactive and active windows have the same colour. Created attachment 33006 [details]

As you see it is possible. You can apply color effects to inactive windows.
I think that is what you want.

Yes, but the user cannot select different colours, only fade / saturate the colours that already exist. For higher contrast reasons, I prefer a brighter window colour than the KDE default, however for inactive windows I want bland colours.
It really is not a big deal, and I _could_ live without it, but it would make my computer use that much easier on the eyes.
i can darken, tint, fade, desaturate - except using entirely different colors, i can do whatever i want. + qtconfig (you must unset the kde desktop environment to not useless have it yell "use kcmshell colors" allows you to define ever mode (active, inactive, disabled) independently) Dotan: bright vibrant base colors plus strong desaturate is not enough? I can add ability to have more than one color effect, even additional types of effects (e.g. change hue), but having a totally independent palette is only semi-possible, and is /not/ possible with the current color architecture - i.e. may not be possible until KDE5. > Dotan: bright vibrant base colors plus strong desaturate is not enough?
It is enough, I can live with it. Actually, now that I think about it, it probably is better to define the inactive windows colours in terms of tint/darkening/saturation of the active windows colours.
To bad there is no RESOLVED -> PEDANTIC resolution!
