Sentry Crash Report:

Description Kirill 2009-04-20 05:32:38 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Can not remove Search Bar from Location Toolbar.

Go to Settings | Configure Toolbars,

Choose "Location Toolbar"

There are in "Current actions" list at the right of the dialogue only items "Location bar" and "Go". But the toolbar actually contains third element I'd like to get rid off - I suppose it should be called "Search bar", but it is not in the list...

Attempt to solve this problem by removing "Location bar" from the "Location toolbar" and putting it to the "Main toolbar" causes crashes (which are already reported as bugs, ex 178766).

Settings / Configure Extensions
take the tick from Search Bar

and it disappears.

Solution to your problem is mentioned in comment #2. For other related issues see bug# 203687.
Comment 3 BryanFRitt 2013-09-12 05:54:13 UTC
Solution from 'Comment 1' made the search bar disappear for me.

There should still be a more obvious way to move this search bar around, other than the word '<Merge>' in the 'Configure Toolbars...' popup, '<Merge>' really doesn't seam like a search bar thing.
Even though '<Merge>' moves the search bar around the taskbar, removing the '<Merge>' (select '<Merge>' then the left arrow) didn't remove the search bar; even though it should have, so that it's like the rest of the toolbar items.
A way to remove this search bar could be made more obvious than just having the 'Comment 1' way, like right in the 'Configure Toolbar...' screens.

My first search didn't find this bug, so I started a bug report...
(I decided to search again after I wrote this)
rather than let this go to waste, here it is:
-
Can't move or remove search bar area from toolbar

Usually the toolbar can be right clicked and items from the toolbar can be moved around, added, and/or removed.
The search bar area (or what ever it's called) can't be moved around, added, or removed.

(Note: This assumes some default toolbar settings.)
To see this in action, right click on the KDE 'Throbber' icon on the toolbar (or any other icon)
Choose 'Configure Toolbars...'
For 'Toolbar:' make sure 'Location Toolbar <Konqueror> is selected
Click on 'Throbber'
Click on the Up arrow
While looking at the 'Throbber' and search bar area, click 'Apply'
Notice the 'Throbber' moved left of the search bar area
Click on '<Merge>', then the Left arrow, then 'Apply' (What is this '<Merge>'?, seams like another bug...)
Notice the search bar is still there as well
There's still no way to move, or remove the search bar area

Notice the search bar is still there after all this.
There's still no way to move, or remove the search bar area.

There should be a way to move, and remove the search bar, just like the rest of the toolbars.

I agree, this is a bad resolution. Even when I attempt to remove the toolbar (assuming that is what is one is supposed to do) I get the following error on console:

konqueror(12723) KXMLGUIBuilder::removeContainer: Unhandled container to remove : KonqMainWindow
konqueror(12723)/kdeui (kdelibs): Could not write to "/usr/share/kde4/apps/konqueror/kpartplugins/searchbar.rc"

Shouldn't it be writing to your own directory?? Looking around it seems like this has been an issue since 2006
