As far as I know the same problem exists in Kubuntu too... This is technically not a bug. What happens when you drag a shortcut from the K menu to the desktop and select "Link Here" is that you create a symlink to the .desktop file for the application, and that .desktop file is owned by root. You own the symlink you created, which is why you can delete it, but when you try to change the name or the icon, you're actually editing the .desktop file it links to, which you don't own. So what you want to do is select "Copy Here" instead of "Link Here", so you actually copy the .desktop file to the folder shown in the folderview widget. That way you will own the .desktop file and can edit it. We should probably help people avoid this problem by not offering the option to create a symlink in this case however. |
