This is almost guaranteed to be a backend problem - not Amarok's fault. Amarok 2 uses the KDE component Phonon for playback, which itself can use multiple backends. On Linux, we currently recommend using the Phonon-xine backend, which is the most stable one. PS: For further help you could e.g. ask in our forum.
