Does this also happens in another KDE applications where you can write and select some text? Do you use SCIM ? And yes again, I'm using SCIM with this environment (something might be misconfigured): XIM_PROGRAM=scim -d QT_IM_MODULE=scim-bridge XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM GTK_IM_MODULE=scim Thanks for answering, btw. Ok, so this is a Qt-SCIM bug: bug 188533 OpenSUSE is applying some patch to fix the issue. May be you can ask the Debian developers to include it too.
