Version:            (using KDE 4.2.2)
Compiler:          gcc (GCC) 4.2.4 (Gentoo 4.2.4-r1 p1.1) 
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Gentoo Packages

I just want to press Alt+F1 and start entering some words... but I first need to click on the menu. AFAIU, the "K" menu window doesn't grab the focus at all.

Everything was ok for me with KDE 4.2.1
