Hi,
After creating a new folder, it is not selected by default. Since dolphin automatically re-arranges the folder views after creating a new one, the user gets confused as to whether the folder is created or not, and where it has gone !!
So, this looks like an user-interface issue with the file manager.

Could you please make the newly created folder automatically selected, so that the user can clearly identify where it is located after getting created ?

Thanks for the report, this has been fixed one week ago and will be available with KDE 4.3 :-)

As noted in the forums (http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=223&t=102688), this is reproducible in Dolphin 2.0.

Fixed again in KDE 4.8.4, see bug 291064.
