Description Zack Rusin 2009-03-26 20:46:02 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

A feature of Gwenview 3 that I loved (and most likely everyone else who has to do graphics development) was the fact that the preview window showed images over a checkboard. This preview window is now gone and the browse window always shows images over a solid color background.
This makes is exceedingly difficult to spot differences and regression when viewing a collection of images with an alpha channel.
It would be great if the browse window could either by default (or have an option to) render all images over a checkboard.

You can still have a checkerboard background in "View" mode. If you enable the thumbnail bar, you should get something a bit similar to the KDE3 version (hopefully the thumbnail bar is going to gain the ability to show multiple rows/columns in next version).

Yea, but that only fixes the regression in my usage patterns between 3 and 4 (assuming the thumbnail bar gets the multiple rows/columns feature). As mentioned what would be lovely is for the browser window to do that. The reason being: in the view mode I can see only one image of the 2400+ that I need to compare visually - that makes spotting differences very cumbersome since I need to click on every image that I think could have changed. (also the 188191 is blocking the view mode completely right now :) ).

Hmm... I guess the background mode selection could be shared between thumbnails and normal view, this would be more consistent. I'll add this to my TODO, but it's kind of low priority for now.

We'd need to do something about the filenames of the thumbnails. Quite hard to read text on a checkerboard background.
