It's relevant of opengl libraries used by QT4. Which video card you use ? Gilles Caulier My video card is NVidia GeForce 7 with native driver 180.29, KDE in composite mode. Reinstalling the pre-compiled kde4-kipi-plugins RC2 from OpenSUSE solves this for now. - KDE Version 0.10.0 (rev.: 933866) (KDE 4.2.00 (KDE 4.2.0) "release 102", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.1) - Application digiKam is a digital photo management application. More informations at http://www.digikam.org - Operating System Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.27.19-3.2-default - Compiler gcc The crash still occurs even with the latest X11:Xorg repository updates for OpenSUSE 11.1 (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.1) with for instance: - Mesa 7.3 - libdrm 2.4.5 - libX11 1.2 - xorg-server 1.6.0 instead of the adequate packages from the OpenSUSE DVD and official updates, and KDE 4.2.1 using the same latest NVidia native drivers as above and the latest Digikam SVN version. Sound like a downstream issue ? Gilles Caulier I have a lot of problems with nvidia drivers in the last time, I had to downgrade to 173.14.12 to make it work. Now I have bad performance throughout KDE and digiKam, but at least it is not crashing all the time. Sometimes my session was just logged out automatically, sometimes I got pink dots all over the desktop, then I had a tiled screen etc. Maybe you are facing the same problem. Rather than reporting this to NVidia I want to note, that the issue described here does not happen with kde4-kipi-plugins 0.2 RC2, but beginning with some later SVN version. What has been changed since this time in the Advanced SlideShow plugin? BTW: There might be something similar in this report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=185236 Another note, that might be important: I'm using Qt 4.5.0 (released version, precompiled for OpenSUSE 11.1). Digikam SVN was compiled with it, too. Maybe you did an OpenGL update? I can not see the crashing here. I use freeglut: 2.4.0 mesa: 7.2 Qt 4.5 could also be the problem, I don't now, I'm still running 4.4.3 here. I use the freeglut-080721-20.1 package from the official OpenSUSE 11.1 repository, which contains among others the following files: /usr/lib/libglut.so.3.8.0 I can post a glxinfo output or anything that could be useful here as soon as I'm on the computer where the crash occurs, if you give me a hint. I'm still using the stable 180.29 NVidia drivers (not the beta drivers mentioned in the discussion thread you referred to), which work otherwise very well in KDE 4 compositing mode, not other crashes at all a long time. And not to forget, returning to the precompiled kipi-plugins 0.2 RC2 the crash doesn't occur even with Qt 4.5, but as soon as I compile and install the SVN version. From SVN log I saw that there is going to prepared the 0.10.0 (Digikam) and 0.2.0 (Kipi plugins) releases. I just want to remember that the crash described above still happens for the kipi plugins r940000. Reinstalling the 0.2.0 RC2 kipi-plugins package from the distribution solves this for me temporarily. Sorry, but packages are already done and currently in post to SF.net... nevertheless. I opened a thread at the NV News forum: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=130172 Hopefully there will someone be able to tell us shortly whether the problem was really fixed with the new drivers or whether this is a packaging or compiling problem, or some other problem with the packages I have installed. In the past, I got many problem with 180.29 version (NVidia 6800GT), so it isn't the best release ever form NVidia. Newest are a little stable, but I noticed a lack of performance :( BTW, I can reproduce your bug with my new 280GTX card and OpenSUSE 11.1, but I keep thinking is NVidia driver's related. Thanks for the comment. I haven't encountered performance problems to this time using driver version 180.37 using the GeForce 7600 GS, KDE composite mode works fluently as before the upgrade. I saw fps dropping from 180/160 to 5/10 in many linux games using OpenGL. Using the latest stable NVidia drivers 180.44 there is no problem any longer. Novell/SuSE doesn't support them, but downloading, compiling and installing them on OpenSUSE 11.1 solves this issue here. |
