Description Ayden Beeson 2009-02-20 23:33:23 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

Hey guys,

I have noticed a problem with konsole since kde 4.x (and possibly before), when you have compiz enabled konsole will write over its own lines, and will also fail to show the last few lines quite often.

Its random when it will start, but happens quickly everytime, it tends to occur once the initial konsole is full and it begins to build a scrollback.

It also occurs when you vi into things, and when you clear the terminal (with clear), it will just put the typing at the top, but not clear all the text, so you just end up writing over things.

Its purely an appearance bug, and has no effect on actual text entered, but it makes konsole almost unusable, to the point where i disable compiz just because of this.

I have tested this with compiz off, it never happens then, and i have also used gnome terminal, and that does not suffer the same problem.

I also had this bug on kubuntu 8.04 (i think it was that version, the first one with KDE 4) Fedora 9, and Fedora 10, and from memory, also had it back on Fedora 7 (with KDE 3.5.x)

It does not crash etc, so the best i can do is describe it, and i will attempt to get a screenshot as well.

Thanks,
Ayden

An example of the overwrite after issuing a clear

I just did a few ls -l's to build up a bit of output, then typed a clear.

You cant even see that the cursor is back at the top until you hit enter a few times, then i typed the message to indicate where the current typing is...

Which video card and drivers are you using and does this happen with KWin with desktop effects enabled?

Tested with kwin with effects on, does not occur when that is on.

Its just when compiz is on, and it only seems to affect Konsole

Does this bug still happen with recent KDEs (And all other system components), or can it be closed? I can run Konsole on top of Compiz fine here (ATI HD cards with the FOSS radeon driver.).

To be honest im not sure, i have been using the noveau module for a while now and it did not allow 3d effects.

I will confirm it now and let you know.

I have checked, it seems to be fixed.

I think you can close this now :)

Thanks!
