If I resize or maximize Konversation and then hide it in the tray, when I restore it the window size returns to a small default one (something around 640x480) instead of restoring my custom size.

Seems so, yes. We're going to wait for how things develop with regard to a fix in KMainWindow for now, rather than apply the workaround.
