Description Brad Alexander 2009-02-14 18:41:05 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
Compiler: gcc-4.3
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

I have tried every version of KDE4 that has been released. Since kde 4.1.0, I have used it full-time. However, I have never used the native compositing engine for kde. I have been using compiz-fusion for the last two years or so.

That said, I tried the native compositing engine in kde 4.2.0, and am impressed. It has about 80% of the functionality I use in compiz-fusion.

There is one item that is keeping me from switching and one that I would love to see.

The show-stopper for me is that KDE's compositor does not seem to have a group/tab function. In my workflow, I open several terminal windows (normally 6 to 8), then tab them in pairs. This means I can hit <function><left> or <function><right> and flip to another terminal. I know I could do it with multiple tabs in gnome-terminal or kterm, but its just so much more cool this way.

The other item that I would like to see is similar to your being able to use google gadgets, Gnome gdesklets and Apple's desktop applets as KDE widgets, can you please set it up so that the compositing engine can use compiz-fusion's Emerald themes.

Thanks,

Please Brad, remember to report wishes separately, it is more easy for developers to track down wishes and bugs.

I'll leave this wish open for the first wish (group window plugin).

About google gadgets and macosx dashboard applets, the support is already under development. About the support of gnome gdesklets you should open a new bug report.

Thanks!

I will open a second wishlist bug separately, however, just to clarify, I was not asking for gdesklets, I was this as an example. What I was requesting was for the KDE compositing engine to be able to use compiz window decorations...
