When it asks password, try hitting Esc to each these dialogs as long until you get the main window. Then start opening the folder tree and it won't crash. At least when this happens to me, it helps. *** Bug 240071 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Created attachment 48438 [details]

I was working on kontact and it seems to have frozen for an extended period of time checking an imap folder. I quit the application successfully and then restarted kontact. From this point on it crashes reliably on startup as soon as I finish typing in the password for my account.

Kmail1 is currently unmaintained and the code has changed sufficiently in Kmail2 so the backtraces are not really useful anymore. Should you experience the same crash in Kmail 4.8.5 or later, please open a new report for Kmail2. Thank you for your understanding Thank you for the response and just a note for the kmail team. This bug caused me to switch to thunderbird email. The fact that it wasn't resolved before the buck was passed and now it won't be fixed. Of course it makes sense not to fix something that isn't used anymore, but that's not the point. Volunteers yes. Thunderbird has paid employees. Their bugs get fixed. Regardless, the lack of any useful method to import or export email from the new kmail is another good reason to avoid it. I'd file a bug report for it, but it has already been done by numerous people. And it is being ignored like this. Yes I am ranting, but instead of adding features and making it look pretty, maybe your programmers should make it work better. Yes that is the problem with volunteers, it is more fun to make the cool stuff so the important stability stuff is ignored. I do it on my own time projects too. Hire some people, when they get paid they will feel obliged to the stuff that really needs doing. |
