Description Alex Dănilă 2009-02-14 16:31:36 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Konqueror and Dolphin have a new way of displaying files from the file system. As such, the actual area of a file item is a rectangle that encloses the icon of the file and the file name text.

I consider this to be confusing and it considerably slows down file system navigation, because at any time you can click on an item you don't want.
For example trying to draw a selection rectangle: you hsve to imagine in your mind the item rectangle near the cursor such that you don't actually click/drag the item, instead of clicking near it to draw the selection.
With the default grid spacing drawing a selection rectangle becomes a difficult task, as can be seen in the screenshot. I vote for an option to have the good old separate rectangles for text and icon, like int the old Konqueror and Nautilus.

About the icon spacing, you can set it on dolphin/konqueror settings. Could it be enough?

Bye

P.S: Wish moved to dolphin.

Yes, I know the spacing option is a good work-around. But still, I would keep my wish open.

Thanks Alex for the quick feedback!

I agree to your wish, however this kind of selection is not supported anymore in Qt4 -> it will take some time + energy to implement this...
Comment 6 FiNeX 2009-09-26 21:08:28 UTC
@Peter: about this issue, do you know if in future this feature will be re-implemented in Qt?
Comment 7 Peter Penz 2009-10-04 12:02:46 UTC
@FiNeX: I doubt this will be implemented in Qt. We had to invest a lot of work already to make the details view selection as it is now (= only the name + icon acts as selection area). The same effort might be necessary for the icons-view... This feature won't make it into KDE 4.4, but it is still on my radar as I personally also prefer an optimized selection area.

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719
Comment 9 Alex Dănilă 2015-10-29 21:28:38 UTC
For all I can tell this is fixed. For me, the selection works as expected and this can be marked as fixed.

Thanks for the update. Closing.
