Description monstermunch 2009-02-11 05:45:27 UTC
Version: unknown (using 4.2.00 (KDE 4.2.0), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.27-11-generic

I find a common problem when installing new applications is that you:

- install an application through a package manager.
- you assume a new icon to launch the application will appear in the k-menu.
- you hunt around in the obvious menus and sometimes you cannot find it. This is especially annoying when a new icon has not been added to the menu when you expected it.

kickoff should highlight the new application icons in some way. One idea is to e.g. change the colour of the "Applications" tab button, the new application icon(s) and whatever top-level menus link to these icons, plus add a tool tip saying something like "New applications have been installed recently. These have been highlighted for you.".
