With Plasma tray notifications enabled, some plasma network error notifications appear as tray notifications while others appear as old-style passive popups.

You'll need to be more specific about which ones so we can audit the code and fix them.

I'll keep my eyes open for the ones that were appearing as old-style passive popups since I can't remember what they were.

I just recently got incessant full-fledged alert dialogs saying that my MSN account was disconnected. (Reason: remote host closed the connection)

Go ahead. I've been using Pidgin for roughly a year now, so I can't test.
