The time a metacontact is edited (in any way) and at least one of the protocols it consists of is connected Kopete crashes on attempt to save the modified content.

The crash happens always for the Gadu-Gadu protocol and with various frequency when other protocols are concerned.

As you can reproduce the crash at will, may you read http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports and post a complete backtrace here? 
You need to install the "kdenetwork-dbg" package

Also, this is probably a duplicate of bug 178212
