It is already done in kmail 1.11.90 (kde 4.2.62), but only when you use the keyboard to move from mail to mail (or the toolbar next unread message). I guess you are requesting this also for mails selected by mouse? The difference here is that the selected mail should not be forced to be in the middle but to move as it is normal - and to scroll on when an end is reached.
