Description Harald Hvaal 2009-02-05 02:58:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)

The current twitter-widget shows a message for how many new tweets are available, but this message disappears quickly, presumably because plasma of course has no way of knowing if the user has seen the new tweet or not. The effect is that the "X new tweets" message is dependent on the user actually noticing it by chance while it is shown.

I propose another way of showing new twits; set all twits received within a userspecified period (say, two hours for a person with not too many people followed) to fade from a strong to a weak color, so by just a glance one can see which ones are new. Items older than this will appear normal without any color overlay.

By doing this, a user that is actively following twitter can by a rare glance now and then get the impression of (1) how much activity there is (how many faded items there are), and (2) which one are recent (the strongly faded ones).

This is also the same way things are done in kate, with the open files list (except in that case it is just based upon order of opening the files, not the time).

Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
