It would be nice to let kontact "preload" the calendar view from time to time (or start an instance of korganizer-"part"?) so that switching between mail and calendar would be faster and smoother.

Maybe you're right.  Perhaps it is time to do this.
We'll need to test.

In the meantime, you can do it yourself.
Add the line
X-KDE-KontactPartLoadOnStart=true

to the korganizerplugin.desktop file

See if how that works for you and let us know.
