Version:           1.9.9 (using 3.5.10, Debian Package 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1 (lenny/sid))
Compiler:          Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.26-1-686

The crash happens when a new email arrives in an IMAP inbox, the focus is by default on the new message and I just press Reply.

Your KMail version is almost unmaintained. Please retry with KMail > 1.11 (from KDE 4.2.1) and reopen this bug report if you're still able to reproduce this crash.
