Description Claus Wilke 2009-01-15 20:31:28 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

I'm running KDE 4.2 RC1, as provided by Suse.

Autohide still has problems. Here is my situation: I have a two monitor setup via xrandr. The two monitors have different geometries:
LVDS connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 303mm x 189mm
   1440x900 60.0*+ 60.0 58.9 50.0
TMDS-1 connected 1400x1050+1440+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x 306mm
   1400x1050 60.0*+ 60.0 60.0
Specifically, the left monitor (LVDS) has a lower vertical resolution than the right monitor. I place a panel onto the left monitor and switch on autohiding. The panel disappears as expected.

Now the problem: As I move the mouse pointer close to the bottom of the left screen, I can see the blue glow that indicates a panel is there. But if I continue moving the mouse pointer down, the glow just goes away, and the panel doesn't come up. I think the problem is that because the right monitor has a higher vertical resolution than the left monitor, I can move the mouse pointer to a location below the screen, and the unhide function doesn't know what to do with this mouse coordinate.

If I very carefully place the mouse right at the screen border, then, with luck, I may be able to get the panel to come up again.

If I place the panel onto the right monitor, where I cannot move below the screen edge, no such problem occurs.

I will attach a screenshot that demonstrates the layout. When I created the screenshot, the mouse pointer was very close to the bottom of the left screen. Unfortunately, it is not visible in the
screenshot. If I move the pointer any lower, the blue glow just goes away and nothing else happens.

I just noticed that this issue has already been reported as Bug 178066. I'll close this one as a duplicate.
