Version:            (using KDE 4.1.0)
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages

kontact does crash upon start. kmail starts and complains about mime-type for application/octet-stream not present (this is usr... with read permission, XDG-DATA_DIRS has the same values as on another working system (usr .... is included). 

i am not certain on the kde version (cannot check - already crashed).

thank you for an otherwise nice product. this behaviour startet after ubuntu updates (ibex 9.04 distributed  shortly before jan.4)
