Look at the attached screenshot. 

I don't know why this happened... Plasma crashed yesterday but I couldn't get a good backtrace. It came back without those miniapplets. 

Today I logged in again and found the applets like you can see in the screenie. 

I was able to fix it by clicking with the right mouse button using "unlock miniapplets" (translation from German).

What is your KDE version / SVN revision ?
This is probably related/duplicate of bug 177968

KDE 4.1.86 (KDE 4.2 >= 20081221)

So not young enough if that is the bug 177968 (fixed on Dec 27).

disappearance of added widgets after an eventual crash was also fixed recently.
