I do not think this is a good idea, because when you are viewing some mail received months ago at the end of the working day, and you want to continue with it the next working day, with this option enabled you will have to search the mail again. Normally, is is easier to go to the newest mail than to go to some old mail. In any case, it is up to the developers to implement it or not. The same is truth for you're use case, just sort it on oldest mail first and filter on unread mail, but The way most people use it, is to open up their mail program, get any new mail, and have this new mail presented. MS Outlook works this way, and I think it is a sane default. Anyway, if the community is divided, the best thing to to is....make is an option :-) Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented. Thank you for your understanding.
