Description Davide Castellone 2008-12-09 16:07:29 UTC
Version: 0.60.3 (using 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.27.4tuxonice

When I turn on invisible mode for a Jabber account, if it was previously offline, everything works.
If I turn on invisible mode from another state, the account goes immediately offline (instead of "invisible").

I'm using server jabberes.org (in case it is a server problem).
Comment 1 Davide Castellone 2008-12-09 16:18:12 UTC
Note: this happens with other Jabber servers too.
Comment 2 Lukas 2009-01-21 00:54:02 UTC
I can partly confirm this with Kopete 0.60.82 on 4.1.96 .
I have accounts on three different servers.

1. on amessage.de I can choose invisible without problems
2. on jabber.ccc.de the account goes offline
3. on the jabber server of my university the account goes online (visible)

so this is clearly broken.
Comment 3 Mathew Hennessy 2009-01-30 16:23:55 UTC
Same here, with talk.google.com, port 443.. Invisible makes my gtalk entries go away, going back Online brings them back...
Comment 4 Jorge Adriano 2009-05-05 22:52:24 UTC
Yes invisible doesn't work with jabber here either
Comment 5 Jack Black 2009-05-22 19:19:31 UTC
Same for me with kopete version 0.70.2

Doesn't seem to exist (anymore).

I'm experiencing this in KDE 4.6.0 using Kopete 1.0.80 with jabber.ccc.de but not with either amessage.de or google talk.
Comment 13 orelie 2011-06-02 22:04:33 UTC
Uhm - I get the same error with jabber.ccc.de, Kopete 1.0.80 and KDE 4.6.3
furthermore the link above seems to be invalid
Comment 14 Michael Skiba 2013-03-10 19:55:15 UTC
Still present in 1.3.5 (using KDE 4.9.5, "release 3")
Comment 15 Pali Rohár 2013-06-06 09:26:33 UTC
Invisible mode depends on jabber server. Server can mark all contacts as offline. I will close this bug as invalid, because this is server feature which cannot be changed in jabber client.
Comment 16 Johannes Wienke 2013-06-09 06:54:03 UTC
I don't think this is a server feature. With other messengers it works without problems. Also, If I connect directly to invisible mode without being online before, contacts are visible.
Comment 17 Pali Rohár 2013-06-09 08:54:10 UTC
This *is* behaviour of jabber server. And if some other jabber clients do not have problems, then they using some other way how to set invisible status. If this is your case, write which XMPP extension (or method how to set invisible status) kopete does not support which is needed for setting invisible status on your jabber server. Without this information, I cannot do nothing.
Comment 18 Jorge Adriano 2013-06-09 10:02:27 UTC
I don't want to get too much in this discussion, but Pali even if you're right and the status is supposed to be determined by the jabber server in use (and for all I know you're probably right), how does that imply the current behaviour is not a bug on the client side?

I honestly don't see how one follows from the other. Is there any evidence at all that kopete is behaving properly? Do you know of jabber servers with which kopete invisibility works fine? Do you know of any other jabber client that exhibit the same behaviour?
Comment 19 Pali Rohár 2013-06-09 11:15:36 UTC
@Jorge: If server decide that it does not send you online status of all your contacs in yout contact list if you are invisible, then this is not bug on client side.

For example on public kde jabber server http://kdetalk.net/ invisible status working fine.

Thank you for the bug report.

As this report hasn't seen any changes in 5 years or more, we ask if you can please confirm that the issue still persists.

If this bug is no longer persisting or relevant please change the status to resolved.
Comment 21 Christoph Cullmann 2024-09-18 18:28:03 UTC
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
