Sentry Crash Report:

Description Ralph Moenchmeyer 2008-12-04 16:35:31 UTC
Version: 1.10.90 (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

Due to some errors in the composer I changed from Kmail version 1.10.3 to 1.10.90 on an Opensuse 11.0 system, recently. Although quite a lot of things work well with 1.10.90, there is a problem with a complete search for new emails on the Imap server for a "disconnected Imap" account and its (many) folders. The problem does not exist for version 1.10.3 (KDE 4.1.3) or Kmail versions for KDE 3.5.10.

I am connected to a Cyrus Imap server. I use a disconnected Imap folder to cover all the mail folders on the Imap server I am interested in. There was no problem building up the local "disconnected" folders. Indexes are OK and working.

The problem:

An automatic search for new emails every 30 minutes is activated for the disconnected Imap folder. Unfortunately, whenever such a search starts it runs only for some seconds - then a message appears saying "that the connections to the server was unexpectedly interrupted, maybe due to time limits. The connection will be build up later, if possible". (I translated that from German - as good as possible).

I tried to start the run manually - same result. I know from versions 1.10.3 and below that such a run takes approxiately 2 to 3 minutes in my case - just to check all the different folders. So I assume that something is wrong in version 1.10.90.

When I start a lookup for new emails in just one folder it runs OK - in this case no "time limits" are violated. And there were no difficulties with the connection - even after a previous warning due to a stopped complete search run ...

If there is a time limit - where is it set ? I did not find any parameters for that.

Changing time limit parameters in the KDE network configuration under KDE's system settings does not have any influence on the interruption of the connection to the imap server.

I think the problem is solved. I installed Kmail 1.10.90 for another (test) user and initiated a new account for him on the same Imap server - for him the synchronization of the dimap folder worked perfectly and without any interruption.

Therefore, I deleted my own dimap account and set it up again from scratch. Afterwards the synchronization and search for new emails worked perfectly, too. No interruptions of the imap connection any more.

I have no idea about the cause of the previous problems. Looking at my logs I see that I had just updated from 1.10.3 without (!) freshly setting up the dimap accounts. Of course a lot of KDE packages had to be changed at the same time - which worked well.

So, it might be that after changing to Kmail 1.10.90 (and other KDE 4.2 packages), the disconnected imap folders must be recreated.

I close this bug, as it now works for you and nobody else has confirmed this issue. If it occurs again, please leave a comment, so we can reopen that report.

It is OK to close it. The problem never appeared again with later versions of KDE 4.2 and its Kontact components.
