Version:           KDE 4.2b1 (using Devel)

Installed from:    Compiled sources

Proceeding:

1) Update with "http://ppa.launchpad.net/project-neon/ubuntu intrepid main".
2) Log out.
3) Log in.

One widget is missing on the desktop and two on the taskbar. I have lovely red boxes with a white X instead.

The missing widgets:

 * plasma_applet_notes (desktop)
 * quickaccess (taskbar)
 * showdashboard (taskbar)

Those applets are for KDE 4.1 and are not distributed by Neon. (In a word, not a bug)
You could ask the Neon packager to distribute kdeplasma-addons and a package for the third-party quickaccess plasmoid.
