Description AlfonsName 2008-12-02 16:54:08 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.10)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I'm using kde for both surfing in the internet and creating websites.

I therefore have different preferences regarding with which application to open a file with a specific mime type depending on its access method: using my sftp accouting I prefer Quanta and using http I prefer konqueror's khtml.
The same idea also goes with the location: the readme.html of an application is preferably opened using a browser, html source files of my webproject are preferably open using an editor. The only distinguishing feature here is
the location (folder) I placed the files.

This leads to the following proposal:
It should be possible to override the association of an application to a mime type depending on the location of the file or the method used to access the file.
I image defineing the association like filters: If no association for mime+method exists, it falls back to either mime or method association e.g. depending on a priority definition.

Hi,

kdelibs (version 4 and earlier) is no longer maintained since a few years.

KDE Frameworks 5 or 6 might already have implemented this wish.

If not, please re-open against the matching framework if feasible or against the application that shows the issue.

We then can still dispatch it to the right Bugzilla product or component.

Greetings
