When I have my networkmanager set to offline (quite often on my laptop), kmail complains with 'Unknown host xx.xx.xx: unknown error'. I think it would be better to save this message for real unknown errors, when the network connection is bad for example. When the system (in my case NetworkManager) 'knows' i am offline, kmail should know as well, and not complain about unknown hosts.
