Description graham 2008-11-23 15:54:31 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

The storage media applet in KDE3 distinguishes between mounted and unmounted media with a green arrow on the icon when mounted.
KDE4 new device notifier does not distinguish in any way between mounted and unmounted devices. This is a critical bug as removing mounted devices can result in data loss or even irreversible damage to hardware.
It should be relatively easy to have the new device notifier indicate this essential information, a green arrow when ANY of the media it knows about is mounted would be perfectly adequate.

Looks fine to me with KDE 4.1.3 in Kubuntu.

Jonathon, can you explain what 'looks fine to me' means? Are you saying you can look at the tray icon and tell if you have devices that are mounted or not mounted? If so I would really love to know how you do it.
I am using both Mandriva and Opensuse and on both of these it is impossible to tell if a device is mounted or not until you open the device notifier (which, for me at least, is not good enough)

Well, device notifier is not designed to show if devices are mounted on the tray icon. If you would an applet like the Storage Applet in KDE3, make one! :-) It's really quite easy.
