When I open up the Preferences dialog, the window pops up but I get the busy cursor (Using Mac OS X so get the rotating colorful disc) and also the playback stops and hiccups at this time. System becomes momentarily unresponsive, and initially, preferences dialog looks like this - http://i33.tinypic.com/2m29jcg.png

The chopped off text becomes OK after a few seconds and after that things work smoothly.
