I maintain my audio collections with .m3u files, These files are operated properly by many applications, including amarok.

The problem occurs with .m3u files which are unicoded (UTF-8). Lines within them with non-ASCII.characters are ignored. I know that those files are not corrupted because xmms can play them.

Which version of Amarok. Please always provide this information.

Is this a duplicate of bug 171595 or only related?

I do apologize, I use amarok version 1.90 w/ KDE 4.1.2.

I started amarok under strace and found the following:

amarok: [EngineController] [WARNING!] Phonon failed to play this URL. Error:  "The file or folder /home/<real user:deleted>/mm/aud/Abriss West/2005 Kontrollfunktion/Kapitalismus tÃ<U+0083>Â¶tet.ogg does not exist."

Obviously, amarok or the phonon backend failed to interpret the 'ö' (UTF-8). Its representation to amarok looked like 'Ã<U+0083>Â¶', which is way to weird even in terms of Unicode. The file name is '../mm/aud/Abriss West/2005 Kontrollfunktion/Kapitalismus tötet.ogg'.

Could you please update to beta2 (1.92), as there have been significant changes. Please let us know if the problem still exists!

Thank you, Seb. I have installed v1.92.2 from SuSE's factory repositories.

Now  I cannot play any .m3u files anymore (from within the application nor from the command line nor from konqueror), I can only select and play single audio files.

That is why I cannnot tell you whether that upgrade concerns the problem at all.
