Description Bård Kalbakk 2008-10-04 12:51:47 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Version: Konsole 2.1

Deselecting "Show menu bar in new windows" has no effect. I expect the menu bar to be hidden when this option is deselected. The "Show menu bar" in the view menu works for the current window, but this is not a static option.

Comment 1 Søren Holm 2008-11-10 20:59:00 UTC
I can confirm this. I tried to delete .kde/apps/share/konsole from xterm. After that I started konsole again it seems like the "Show menu bar"-setting work apposite and is not persistent.
Comment 2 Martin M 2008-11-11 11:08:29 UTC
I can also confirm this. I usually start my konsole in full screen mode without any toolbars, etc. But since I've upgraded to Kubuntu Intrepid the menu bar reappears whenever I open a session or tab. I then have to select the "Show Menu Bar" Entry once to virtually show the bar, and then a second time to get rid of it.
Comment 3 Francisco 2008-11-13 12:23:39 UTC
I can confirm the same problem on KDE 4.1.3 using Ubuntu packages.

If I toggle "show menu bar" to OFF. Whenever I switch to another tab the setting is lost.
Comment 4 ken manheimer 2008-11-25 07:27:42 UTC
me, too. furthermore, toggling on and back off to actually deactivate the menu bar, as described in reply #2, is futile, because switching to another session within the console window and then switching back (i switch between sessions a lot) leaves the menu bar reexposed. bad news for those of us who generally want the menu bar to not be showing.

this suddently stopped happening in my konsoles, soon after chiming in on the report. before filing the report i had tried rebooting, etc, without improvement, but once it stopped happening it hasn't reappeared, in the two days since.
Comment 6 Martin M 2008-11-28 11:32:15 UTC
I can confirm Ken's observation, that the behavior has stopped. It seems to have been fixed somehow.
Comment 7 Søren Holm 2008-11-29 10:07:34 UTC
I deleted config/konsolerc and apps/konsole and problem solved.
Comment 8 Andrej Filipcic 2008-12-29 13:40:01 UTC
The problem is back with konsole in 4.1.85. Removing the config and apps files does not solve it.
Comment 9 Søren Holm 2008-12-29 16:30:15 UTC
I see it too.

As Andrej states I have the same problem and removing config/konsolerc and apps/konsole does not help.

Can confirm that as well. This time on eeebuntu (practically ubuntu 8.10, it has all the same repos) using kde 4.2 beta nightlys from the project-neon repos. konsole 2.2, kde 4.2.60 (never installed kde 4.1 from official ubuntu repos, the nightlies are the only kde programs and libraries installed. But gnome is there.)

Symptoms:
- deselect "show menu bar in new windows" in the default profile
- would expect a newly opened window to show no menu bar (using a netbook, I value my screen real estate)
- Instead, a newly opened window shows the menu bar, even though view->'show menu bar' ist unticked. Selecting view->'show menu bar' tickes the option, and the menu bar remains visible. Selecting it again unticks the option, and the menu bar disappears, as expected.

I have also experienced the exact same behaviour on openSuse, using the kde 4.2 betas from the opensuse unstable repositories.

Comment 13 Jason 'vanRijn' Kasper 2009-01-19 22:11:31 UTC
Yep, me too. OpenSUSE 11.1, with the rc1 packages.
Comment 14 Camila 2009-01-26 15:34:31 UTC
Can't use tabs in fullscreen as the menubar keeps appearing no matter what. As yakuake doesn't work very well either in fs (there's the border bug...) I'm now out of kde terminal choices (system: kubuntu intrepid - KDE 4.2 RC1)
Comment 15 Andrej Filipcic 2009-01-26 15:45:10 UTC
It seems to be fixed with the 4.2 release.
Comment 16 Camila 2009-01-29 12:11:39 UTC
Can't reproduce after upgrading to 4.2 release.
Comment 17 Jeroen Tietema 2009-01-29 12:13:55 UTC
Seems fixed here too. Running ubuntu packages.
Comment 18 Indriði Einarsson 2009-01-29 13:57:32 UTC
on ubuntu intrepid, using 4.2 from kubuntu-experimental, the bug seems to be fixed for me, too.

thanks
Comment 19 Søren Holm 2009-01-30 01:17:44 UTC
It still happenens to me on jaunty kde 4.2
Comment 20 Tim Burrell 2009-01-30 12:52:22 UTC
I am running 4.2 with the Ubuntu intrepid packages from PPA, and the problem is NOT fixed. I've deleted my rc and config files to no avail. Deselecting show menu bar in new terminals still does nothing.
Comment 21 Andrey Rakhmatullin 2009-03-25 21:29:56 UTC
4.2.1: still here.
Comment 22 Andrey Rakhmatullin 2009-03-25 21:31:47 UTC
Sorry, it works in 4.2.1.

Created attachment 36008 [details]
example of the current show/hide menu behaviour

On current trunk it still doesn't works.
I'll attach a video which shows the current behaviour.

I've used a clean account with trunk r1008913.

It looks like the setting is saved (the context menu is rigtly updated) but not applied.
Comment 24 Philipp Claves 2009-08-10 19:04:40 UTC
Using KDE 4.3 on Archlinux. This bug still present.
Comment 25 Søren Holm 2009-12-07 21:09:39 UTC
The selection still works strange in 4.3.4. Opening konsole and toggling the selection multiple time end up in a situation whith inversed logic. "Hide mdenu" shows the menu, while "Show menu" hides it. Strange, but not destructive.
Comment 26 Carsten Schlipf 2010-03-19 16:45:33 UTC
I can't reproduce this with KDE 4.4.1 anymore. Does anybody still have this problem?
Comment 27 Søren Holm 2010-08-13 23:59:09 UTC
It's fixed. Cloe the bug.
