I put mypager settings as 1 row, whilst having 4 desktops. Upon pressing Ctrl+F8, I discovered that my Desktop View was no longer 2 by 2, but was in fact in one straight line. I think you should be able to adjust how you would like to have that view, as 2 by 2 or 1 by 4. So if you have 16 desktops, it could be 2 by 8, 1 by 16, 4 by 4 etc.

You already have that option in the Desktop Grid effect settings dialogue.

I tried that but when I pressed the button with the spanner it came up with only a box saying 'activate when cursor in corner', and a table saying Action, Grid and Shortcuts.

Ok, reopening, and moving to kwin.

It is probably a partial backport from the trunk - the feature is backported but not the configuration dialogue as well.

The new desktop grid effect is only available in 4.2, there is no official 4.1 backport. Marking as a duplicate as it's already available in trunk.
