This is an usability bug: I think the "edit file type" buton from a file properties is not clear enough. It's small, in a corner, and without any text.

My brother, who is starting using KDE, complained that had been looking for a way to change the default program to open a file and wasn't able to locate it. He had even open the properties dialog, but couln't find the edit file type access.

The main problem is probably the button has no text. I think something like this would make this task more easy for new users: http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/2960/propertiesua3.png

For me the "(wrench) Edit" button brings me the idea that the button allows user to change file format, not the MIME-settings what application opens that kind file.

The should be "preferred applications" or other than just "Edit".
Reason for that is we are on file properties, if there is "Edit", it means that we want to edit the file. Other way is just using "Configure" name and not "Edit" as on mockup.

Hm, that's right, a "Preferred applications" button would be much more intuitive.

It should be a bigger one with text instead just a small wrench icon.

Hi,

kdelibs (version 4 and earlier) is no longer maintained since a few years.

KDE Frameworks 5 or 6 might already have implemented this wish.

If not, please re-open against the matching framework if feasible or against the application that shows the issue.

We then can still dispatch it to the right Bugzilla product or component.
