Description Alberto Gonzalez 2008-08-11 21:29:47 UTC
Version: 0.50.80 (using KDE 4.1.0)
Installed from: Unspecified Linux
Compiler: 4.3.1
OS: Linux

When I have, for example, 3 conversations opened in Kopete and I'm surfing the net, a new message comes in and I get a notification (sound + animated tray icon), but in order to see in which conversation I have received the message i have to open the three of them.

In KDE3 Kopete blinked the taskbar item for the conversation that had receive the new message (unless it had focus), so you new where to look for the new message. It would be nice to have this in KDE4 too.

Thanks.

I think Kopete at KDE 4 took a few too many steps back. Don't take me wrong, there's improvements too. But for the average user Kopete is now very very annoying due to few bugs or lack of features which were present on the KDE 3 Kopete.

I can't figure out which of my chats got a new message, I expect them to be blinking on the taskbar. I'm not using tabs on the chats, neither I want my desktop to be full of these small notification windows (with very odd alignment on the desktop). And stealing focus from other Windows would the most annoying option of all...

Could it be fair to say that most people would want their Kopete to behave quite similar to... oh noes... MSN Messenger on Windows...?

Seems like with all the eye candy present in KDE4, there could be a nice "pulsing" effect on the task manager button corresponding to the chat window that received a new message. I realize that is more a feature wish for the Task Manager plasma widget than for Kopete.

This seems to have been fixed for KDE 4.2. I now get a blinking taskbar button for my conversation window whenever a new message comes in and the conversation window is not the active window. (However, oddly enough, Kopete seems to use the "Incoming Message in Active Chat" notification settings exclusively and ignores the notification settings for "Incoming Message.")

I still (with 4.2 and 4.3) do not see any blinking in the Task Manager. I can get animated icon in System Tray, but that does not show me which window it belongs to.
I tried all settings in kopete that seem to have to do anything with notification on new messages and also tried desktop effects, but to no avail.

In KDE3.5 the window first blinks in the Taskbar and then it is highlighted in blue. I liked this behavior and want it back in KDE4 (I don't insist on the color), ideally without the need for compositing.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
