Your kdebase is too old. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 166598 *** Hello, I have this bug on my asus eee 901 with Kubuntu 8.04.1 and KDE 3.5.10 too. There are some leading commas in ksmserverrc as descripted above. I use another Computer where this bug doesn't appears. There are the same packages and versions installed as on the Asus eee. If I remove these commas manually before login, KDE gets started complete with all the applications that are listed in ksmserverrc. Maybe you can find some time to look for this bug.
