I observe a similar problem on Kate 3.1.2 on KDE Linux. I first assumed KDE4's excessive eyecandy to be the reason, but the popup shows similar delays on XFCE without any composite/3D rendering enabled. I still have the impression that this is a performance issue rather than an intentional delay, and some clever optimization might be needed to restore the level of responsiveness that has been Kate's standard in KDE3. Anyway, the short delay makes autocompletion much less useful for me, since it never appears when I simply type -- I need to pause intentionally for the window to open. I can confirm this with KDE 4.1.3 (Kate 3.1.3) running in Arch Linux. I'm using KDE 4.3 with Windows. There is no delay. Then we close that, since KDE 4.1, kate got many performance improvements. |
