Description Mikolaj Machowski 2008-08-02 23:46:08 UTC
Version: 1.10 (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc4.2.2
OS: Linux

In big folders (local mboxes 20000+ messages) any filtering makes using KMail unusable.

I can normally use big folders with unthreaded folder view but with threads turned on everything is becomes very slow. Opening of folder with 20000 messages can take 10s, opening of individual message ca. 5s (which is really strange - I can uderstand display or operations on long lists but display of single message?). Operations on folder with 60000 messages takes several minutes. Problem with displaying vanishes when threading is turned off but *any* filtering is very, very slow (filter by flag, simple search).

Filtering is usable with folders up to 15000.

KMail 1.9 (KDE 3.5.9) is working fine with threading, filtering, searching in any folder.

Computer: Sempron 2200, 756M RAM.

Note: those are times after recompilation of whole KDE against Qt 4.4.1 (from qt-copy). They were much worse when compiled against Qt 4.4.0 (qt-copy). So problem may lay on lower level.
