In a text editor open up ~/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc and make sure blur is disabled. If it is enabled disable it and see if the crash goes away, if it does I'll mark this as a duplicate of the blur crash. *** Bug 168265 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 173706 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I have the same symptoms (crash during kde4 login) with a nvidia 9600 GT card and nvidia drivers (177.80-0ubuntu3). But i also suspect my graphic card drivers to cause it (GeForce 9600 GS, beta proprietary x86_64 drivers) becoause some grpahics "flickering" may be seen before the crash.
