Sentry Crash Report:

Description Darcy R. Peal 2008-07-18 06:11:05 UTC
Version: Dolphin 1.0.2 KDE 4.0.3 (using KDE 4.0.5)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

This is a new (2 days ago) install of KDE 4.0.3 from Kubuntu 8.04.1

How to reproduce: Open Dolphin, open a text file. Kate opens properly with the right document displayed. A few seconds later a "Sorry Dolphin" dialog box appears with the message "KLauncher could not be reached via D-Bus, error when calling start_service_by_desktop_path: empty"

Notes: Nothing crashes, I can still read the text file. However on previous attempts at installing/using Linux the K environment caused total system crash. It did this with Debian, Knoppix, and Ubuntu; at least until I reformatted the entire HDD to ext3. Which wiped out all traces of HP crap.

System: HP Pavillion a1410n - AMD64 3800+(Athalon) - 2 GB RAM, Nvidia 6150LE

Personal Note: Don't ever buy a proprietary system.

I cannot reproduce this issue in KDE 4.1, but I know we had some similar reports during KDE 4.0.x. Does this issue also happen with a completely new user? If I remember correctly the root cause was related to a KDE3 vs. KDE4 configuration issue...
