Can you try again by doing kquitapp plasma in a terminal, then removing your .kde4 and restarting plasma with: plasma and paste all output in terminal from there if you can reproduce this black screen. Thanks in advance! I'm marking this as resolved for now. I thought that all of KDE 4.1 RC1 was installed but more packages are coming, I guess Kubuntu wasn't done compiling everything. I'm going to leave this resolved unless someone else has the problem. After fully updating KDE4, I have this problem on two machines. I followed the instructions as advised with a different user account, and this is the output: (I ran the dolphin command so I could delete the .kde folders). krystal@jeremy-laptop:~$ kquitapp plasma krystal@jeremy-laptop:~$ dolphin dolphin(8558) MetaDataWidget::setFile: KUrl("file:///home/krystal") krystal@jeremy-laptop:~$ dolphin(8558) MetaDataWidget::setFile: KUrl("file:///home/krystal") dolphin(8558) KMimeTypeFactory::parseMagic: Now parsing "/usr/share/mime/magic" dolphin(8558) KMimeTypeFactory::parseMagic: Now parsing "/home/krystal/.local/share/mime/magic" dolphin(8558) MetaDataWidget::setFile: KUrl("file:///home/krystal/.gnome2") dolphin(8558) MetaDataWidget::setFile: KUrl("file:///home/krystal/.gnome2_private") dolphin(8558) MetaDataWidget::setFile: KUrl("file:///home/krystal/.kde") dolphin(8558) MetaDataWidget::setFile: KUrl("file:///home/krystal") krystal@jeremy-laptop:~$ plasma <unknown program name>(8569)/ checkComposite: Plasma has an argb visual 0x8061728 27262977 <unknown program name>(8569)/ checkComposite: Plasma is COMPOSITE-less on 0x805a9e8 Creating link /home/krystal/.kde4/tmp-jeremy-laptop. can you post your `kde4-config --localprefix`/share/config/plasma-appletsrc file to this report please? thanks =) i really think this is just a packaging snafu, though. Nothing happens when I paste that command, I get a ">" that expects me to put in something... Yeah, that's my current wallpaper right now, did I need to do that as a fresh user? Aaron J.Seigo wrote: [bugs.kde.org quoted mail] new user is unnecessary; here's an easier way: 1. in a konsole, run: kquitapp plasma 2. move (not delete!) the plasma-appletsrc file somewhere (e.g. to your home dir) 3. run: plasma 4. confirm you still see nasty blackness 5. run: kquitapp plasa 6. post the new plasma-appletsrc to this br 7. move the plasma-appletsrc file from step 2 back 8. run: plasma That wasn't so bad, here you go: --- [Containments][1] formfactor=0 geometry=0,0,1280,1024 immutability=1 location=0 plugin=desktop screen=0 wallpaper= zvalue=0 [Containments][1][Applets][2] formfactor=0 geometry=6,6,600,400 immutability=1 location=0 plugin=folderview screen=-1 zvalue=0 [Containments][1][Applets][2][Configuration] url=desktop:/ [Containments][3] formfactor=2 geometry=0,-44,1280,38 immutability=1 location=4 plugin=panel screen=0 zvalue=150 [Containments][3][Applets][4] geometry=0,3,34.6056745550373,35 immutability=1 plugin=launcher zvalue=0 [Containments][3][Applets][4][Shortcuts] global=Alt+F1 [Containments][3][Applets][5] geometry=38.6056745550373,3,34.6056745550373,35 immutability=1 plugin=notifier zvalue=0 [Containments][3][Applets][6] geometry=77.2113491100747,3,44,35 immutability=1 plugin=pager zvalue=0 [Containments][3][Applets][7] geometry=125.211349110075,3,927.788650889925,35 immutability=1 plugin=tasks zvalue=0 [Containments][3][Applets][8] geometry=1057,3,129,35 immutability=1 plugin=systemtray zvalue=0 [Containments][3][Applets][9] geometry=1190,3,70,35 immutability=1 plugin=digital-clock zvalue=0 [Containments][3][Configuration] maximumSize=1280,38 minimumSize=1280,38 [General] immutability=1 Aaron J.Seigo wrote: [bugs.kde.org quoted mail] $KDEDIR here means where KDE is installed, for example /usr or /opt/kde. Can you please provide your screen resolution and the contents/existance of $KDEDIR/share/wallpapers/Blue_Curl/contents/images/ Thanks Jemery says it's gone in 4.1 final. Jeremy: when you're replying to bugs, please use bugs.kde.org (ie: the link at the top of the email). The new bugzilla installation doesn't set reply-to properly (yet), so your reply doesn't appear as a comment in the bug report. |
