I agree. the blinking is so smooth and unobtrusive that I've only actually seen it happen once. an animation that's meant to get my attention should *not* be unobtrusive. :) maybe it could be given a bit more contrast, but it's also really related to the fact that notification seems to work only with certain apps and not with others http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164512 maybe also related with http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160613 two things that maybe makes the situation to seem worst that it actually is? With aMSN, the notifications seems to work, the problem is it's hard notice with the current default theme, as Jonathan states in this post: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160613#c1. With the red notification used on the old theme, I never had a problem. Now I have to take a peek at the task bar every few seconds to see if a got a new message, which is really annoying. :S Thanks. I agree with Luciano, It is very difficult to recognize notifications even with looking directly at the taskbar item. I am using Kopete with ICQ... Created attachment 26805 [details]
Taskbar theme with red "wants attention" notifier
I've asked Pinheiro and Martin Marco about a more noticeable "wants attention"
look, but as an example here is the current theme with the uplighter on tasks
that want attention red instead of white.
fixed with new theme I'm using the KDE 4.2.95 and the new Air theme is great but this problem has reappeared unfortunately. The tasks alerts are just not clear enough for me. The white over black of Oxygen, maybe a dark glow now? Hope this get tackled before release because it's really annoying and the Air theme is just the best. Triky problem we can always put more focus on notifications, but we slowly make the theme less appleing and more like a road sign. Can't say this is an invalid bug, and a bit more hinting would be fine, but just a bit more, I hate "ON YOUR FACE DESIGN". As a constant user of aMSN I hate not realizing that someone is talking to me :s It's really annoying. I agree that the design is important, but this usability issue must be the priority. I'm sure that there is a good design to choose that also solves this. Hope to see a fix soon. Thanks! You see luciano the problem is that, every ones want theyr use case to be the one that stands out the most, if we make every one happy we end um making a screaming out loud desktop. IM not syaing we wont do nothing but dont expect to be alot of a difrence, Oxygen the other theme is by nature more vibrant and is also a defoult kde theme, also most kde apps have ways to set up more intrusive notifications acording to individial use cases... Understood. Thanks for your time! one can use a different theme and/or apps can provide other notification mechanisms if demandsAttention is more subtle than expected. |
