In amarok 1.4 you could pare down the list of songs shown in your playlist window by typing in the filter box.  This option is present in the collection browser, and is present in the alternative playlist view, but it is not available in the new playlist view.  This indicates that is probably an intentional decision, and is probably fine for the way some people use amarok, but for the way I use it this is a major limitation.  Particularly, if you want to cue a list of songs and stick to that order it is fine, but if you are listening to your playlist and suddenly have the urge to listen to one particular song that is already on the playlist and then continue on from there it is very tedious to get to that one song without a filter bar.  It would be great if there was at least an option to have the filter bar available, perhaps a single icon that toggles it on and off.

The feature you want is a critical one, and I agree with you. The reason it doesn't exist (yet) is simply because the playlist view is not finished. When it is finished it will have (among other things) sorting and filtering capabilities.

Rather than change this bug to LATER, I'm going to leave it open, because this feature is important enough to go into 2.0.

While this issue may be important enough to seem like it should be in before 2.0, it's technically complicated enough that chances are we won't see it until 2.1, or a 2.0.something.  The playlist needs a good bit of rewriting already, and that should happen before we try to hack more stuff onto the current headache.

As we've discussed at Akademy, we're not going to reintroduce the filter as this encourages mis-use of Amarok. We'll be implementing some sort of inline search function instead.
