Version:           1.2.9 (using 3.5.9, Debian Package 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-4 (lenny/sid))
Compiler:          Target: i486-linux-gnu

When I create a task from an email the email is attached to the task and you can view it when opening the task. But that does only work as long as you don't close kontact. When you close and reopen it all tasks from mails only contain empty mail attachements.

Works as expected in recent kontact versions. The mail is still attached to the todo item when restarting Kontact.
